Increased Access to Higher Education for Girls

In South Sudan, girls and young women have limited access to education, especially higher education. The reasons are mostly poverty and conflict, as well as the cultural practice of marrying off young women at an early age. Loreto Secondary School offers young women from all over the country and from all clans and tribes the opportunity to obtain a secondary school qualification. However, most girls can barely pay the low school fees, and access to higher education is only possible because sponsors support us in running the school. This year, we have enrolled a total of 385 girls.

With 800 € you enable a girl to stay in school for one year.

Our students receive a comprehensive and high-quality education. To develop their full academic, personal, spiritual, and social potential, the girls are taught by qualified teachers and have an extensive extracurricular programme.

The girls have well-kept accommodation and can use the extensive, safe school grounds for sports and leisure activities. They receive an adequate and healthy diet, with food partly grown by the students on the school’s farm.

Every student has free and full access to Mary Ward Primary Healthcare Centre, located within the Loreto compound. The facility can handle emergencies as well as common illnesses. A professional resident counsellor also provides counselling support and trauma healing.

All sponsors who provide scholarships receive a report from the school at the end of each semester, in which we give a brief insight into everyday school life. This lets you see the difference your donation makes for these girls.
